Prime Minister Narendra Modi Unveils Ambitious Development Projects Worth Over Rs 1150 Crores in Lakshadweep

In a momentous occasion for the picturesque Lakshadweep archipelago, Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi inaugurated and dedicated an array of development projects exceeding Rs 1150 crores today in Kavaratti. The diverse projects span key sectors such as technology, energy, water resources, healthcare, and education, marking a significant step towards the holistic progress of the region.
Key Highlights:
Infrastructure Development:
- Inauguration of the Kochi-Lakshadweep Islands Submarine Optical Fiber Connection (KLI – SOFC) project, ensuring 100 times faster internet for Lakshadweep residents.
- Dedication of the Low Temperature Thermal Desalination (LTTD) plant at Kadmat, producing 1.5 lakh litres of clean drinking water daily.
- Launch of Functional Household Tap Connections (FHTC) in all households of Agatti and Minicoy Islands, addressing long-standing water challenges and boosting tourism.
Education and Innovation:
- Distribution of laptops to students under the Laptop Scheme and bicycles under Beti Bachao Beti Padhao, emphasizing the government’s commitment to youth empowerment.
- Initiation of educational institutions for arts and science in Andrott and Kadmat islands, along with a polytechnic institute in Minicoy, aiming to retain and nurture local talent.
Empowering Agriculture and Fisheries:
- Distribution of PM Kisan Credit Cards and acknowledgment of the vital role of Lakshadweep in India’s efforts to increase its share in the global seafood market.
- Highlighting the potential of export-quality local fish and exploring seaweed farming, transforming the lives of local fishermen.
