Attention FASTag Users: Act Now or Face Disruption – Cancellation Deadline Set for January 31st
In a bid to enhance the efficiency of the electronic toll collection system, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has enforced a ‘One Vehicle, One FASTag’ policy. According to an official order issued on Monday, users are required to delete any additional FASTags issued for the same vehicle by their banks. This move aims to curb the misuse of FASTags, such as attaching a single FASTag to multiple vehicles or issuing multiple FASTags for a specific vehicle.
The NHAI directive comes in response to recent instances of non-compliance with Reserve Bank orders, including the issuance of FASTags without proper Know Your Customer (KYC) verification. To rectify this, users are urged to update their KYC information for their latest FASTag to ensure its continued activation. Failure to comply may result in inconvenience, as only the most recent FASTag accounts will remain active, as stated by the NHAI.
The significance of KYC in this context has been underscored by the NHAI, citing reports of deliberate non-pasting of FASTags on vehicle windshields, causing unnecessary delays at toll plazas. To avoid double taxation on tolls, users are encouraged to maintain compliance with the ‘One Vehicle, One FASTag’ policy.
For any concerns or information related to FASTags, the NHAI recommends contacting toll-free customer service numbers provided by the nearest toll plazas or respective issuing banks. With over eight crore drivers, constituting approximately 98 percent of the total vehicles in the country, already benefiting from the FASTag system, this policy is poised to further streamline the electronic toll collection process, contributing to a more seamless travel experience on national highways.
