Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren is currently under investigation by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) at his residence in Ranchi. The probe is related to a money laundering case involving a major illegal land ownership syndicate in Jharkhand.

Officials from the ED, along with three officers from Delhi, arrived at the Chief Minister’s official residence on Kanke Road to carry out their inquiries. The investigation has already resulted in the arrest of 14 individuals, including Chhavi Ranjan, a senior IAS officer who previously held key positions in the state Social Welfare Department and as deputy commissioner of Ranchi.

The ED had previously issued a summons to Hemant Soren, giving him a “last opportunity” to provide a statement regarding the alleged land scam. Soren responded to the summons, labeling it as “illegal.” However, the ED reissued the summons, asking the Chief Minister to appear before the agency within seven days.

Soren had previously ignored the initial summons, citing his busy schedule with the state’s Independence Day celebrations. He also failed to appear on the subsequent dates of August 24 and September 9, claiming prior engagements. As a result, the ED issued a fourth summons to Hemant Soren, scheduling a meeting on September 23.

In response to the ED’s summons, the Chief Minister wrote a letter stating that he had already provided all the necessary documents and information to the agency. He emphasized that if the ED required any additional information, they could refer to the documents previously shared.

The investigation into the illegal land ownership racket in Jharkhand continues, with the ED probing various individuals involved in the case. Hemant Soren’s interaction with the ED at his residence marks a significant development in the ongoing investigation.
