Jharkhand CM Hemant Soren Declared ‘Untraceable’ Amid ED Raids: BJP Seeks Answers

Soren Declared 'Untraceable'

Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren has been declared “untraceable” by sources as he faces scheduled raids and questioning by the Enforcement Directorate (ED).

The situation unfolded dramatically in the early hours of Monday when Soren left his residence in the company of one security personnel, while another senior police officer from his protective detail returned to Ranchi. The CM’s mobile phones were switched off, and the ED seized his BMW and driver from his Delhi residence.

The central agency, together with the Delhi Police, has initiated a search operation for the chief minister and his aide, while the BJP is considering a habeas corpus petition before the High Court. This turn of events has sparked a sensational twist in the ED’s investigation in Jharkhand.

A statement by BJP’s Jharkhand state unit chief, Babual Marandi, alleges that due to fear of the ED, Soren has absconded and gone underground. Marandi calls the situation a gross negligence of the chief minister’s security and urges the governor to take appropriate action.

The ED has summoned Soren multiple times in relation to stone mining and land scam cases. Soren appeared earlier this month and was scheduled to appear again on January 31. However, his party workers have been protesting against the ED action.

The Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) has criticized the ED officers’ early morning visit to Soren’s residence on January 29, stating that it did not adhere to the law. The party questions the urgency of the situation and raises concerns about the treatment of democratically-elected chief ministers by the center when they are in Delhi, referring to Soren’s previous promise to appear before the ED on January 31.
